GCSE Physical Education

GCSE PE is an additional subject to the option choices. We will be offering the course within the current PE structure and timetable. We currently follow the EDEXCEL Syllabus as this best fits our pupils’ profiles and curriculum structure.

AIM

The Edexcel GCSE Physical Education Syllabus offers an opportunity to foster enjoyment of physical activity and to enable candidates to develop an understanding of effective and safe physical performance. The course is divided into Theoretical and Practical sessions, with two lessons of theory and three lessons of practical per two week cycle. Studying GCSE PE will enable pupils to perform their chosen activities to the best of their ability, to plan, undertake and evaluate a safe health-promoting exercise programme and to show understanding of the principles involved.

PRACTICAL CONTENT

The practical session of the course requires pupils to choose 4 activities to be assessed in. The majority of activities chosen by pupils will be taught within the curriculum, however due to the wide range of activities accepted by the syllabus, where a student has a particular area of sporting expertise other than those offered in lessons, he/she may be assessed in this activity (using specific criteria) by a qualified coach/instructor outside school.

ASSESSMENT OF PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES

Assessment will be continuous throughout Year 10 and Year 11 with the opportunity for pupils to plan, lead and officiate at appropriate times during the course. The practical aspect counts for 60% of the final marks.

A) Course Assessment 25%
B) Analysis of Performance 10%
C) Final Practical Assessment 25% = 60%
