Physical Education / Sports Studies

The overriding aim of the Physical Education programme at Rougemont is to promote active and healthy lifestyles by encouraging all pupils to participate at their chosen level, in activities that they enjoy.

By employing a multi-dimensional approach to teaching and learning, the study of and participation in P.E. encourages pupils to develop not only their physical skills but also a range of essential life skills- communication, teamwork, honesty and tolerance all constitute a significant part of the hidden curriculum and using physical activity as the medium enables us to improve the self esteem and confidence of many pupils. Essentially, the curriculum and extra curricular programme offers a comprehensive range of learning experiences to meet the needs of individual pupils.

We aim to respond to the needs and aspirations of children of varying needs and interests. These abilities and interests differ widely; some children are competitive whilst others enjoy participation in P.E. purely for recreation. It is our aim to provide a broad based programme that appeal to all pupils, from those who prefer team games to those who may be inclined towards individual activities. We want to provide children with the opportunity to experience aesthetic movement, team work, develop physical fitness and enjoy the challenge of competition.

We pride ourselves on delivering an inclusive, whilst competitive Physical Education
Programme, which caters for all and allows pupils to realise their full athletic potential-with a focus towards enjoyment and achievement.
