GCSE History

GCSE Modern World History gains students not only an understanding of the world’s recent past but also an insight into the nature of the world today.

It provides the opportunity to develop skills that will be valuable in many other subject areas at GCSE and beyond. The ability to research topics, to analyse and organise information and to construct a logical argument ending in a considered conclusion, are all important assessment objectives of the course.These skills will enhance students’ learning and understanding across the curriculum.

OCRs Modern World History B (J417) course is followed at GCSE. The course is made up of 4 units

Unit 1 - Depth Study on Germany, 1918-1945.

Unit 2 - Aspects of International Relations, 1919-2005 The Inter-War Years, 1919-1939.

These units are examined at the end of Year 10 and comprise 45% of the total marks.

Unit 3 - Historical Enquiry (Controlled Assessment). Choice of four investigations set by OCR. 25% of total marks. Taken in Autumn term of Year 11.

Unit 4 - British Depth Study. How was British society changed 1890-1918. 30% of total marks. Examined in Summer of Year 11.
