Welcome to the Junior School Council

Welcome

A school council is a body of pupils whose purpose is to represent their peers and actively participate in the decision making process of the school.

Since 2005, Rougemont Junior School has supported successful school councils, giving pupils the right to be heard and have their views considered.

  • The election process is as follows:
  • Pupils from each class write their own manifesto.
  • Pupils present their manifesto to their class in election week held in October of each year.
  • School councillors are democratically elected by their class in a secret ballot.
  • Finally, announcements of the new school council are given in assembly.

The school council meets every fortnight with Mrs Williams (link teacher) to discuss, suggest and problem solve suggestions and ideas from their class.

The school council 2009-10 have already had several meetings, to allocate different jobs and responsibilities, which have been democratically shared.
