Orchestra and Choir

NATIONAL FESTIVAL OF MUSIC, NEWPORT CENTRE - FRIDAY 9TH MARCH, 2012

Congratulations to the training orchestra, who performed at the Newport Leisure Centre in the National Festival of Music. They performed 'Ecossaises' by Schubert, Pachalbel's 'Canon' and 'Kalinka', a traditional Russian melody.

The feedback received from adjudicators was most complimentary - "You all have a terrific sense of playing together.  Your discipline is excellent and you all look really dignified."

2012 Eisteddfod Practices

Orchestra

We meet every Wednesday lunchtime between 12.50pm and 1.50pm- a whole hour of music making! The group are a friendly bunch and the children, incorporating years 3 to 8, are enthusiastic and committed to developing their playing skills. In addition, they come to the club to do what playing an instrument is all about, to play with others to make an orchestra. Indeed, playing an instrument is a sociable hobby and should, I believe, be shared with others.

Over the last couple of years I have seen many children heading off to play in the Senior Orchestra, having reached the required high standard to do so. We are in a rebuilding phase of the orchestra and I would like to encourage children to take up an orchestral instrument, so they can become members of the Training Orchestra.

Tuition is available on just about any instrument you can imagine, including flute, clarinet, oboe, violin, viola, cello, double bass, trumpet, trombone and percussion. Why not come along to orchestra and see us at work or go along to a lesson for a taster? We have certain instruments available for hire and we can help with finding instruments at reduced prices.

This is the orchestra at practice 12th October, you will see photos in the different sections of players.  Lots of smiling faces after a busy time of music making!
