With the foundations firmly in place the Infants' School is the next step on the educational learning ladder. We provide a friendly, family atmosphere in which children are encouraged to engage actively in their education to develop self confidence and self esteem.
At Rougemont we believe that learning doesn't just happen in the classroom. There are lots of opportunities for children to find out about the world around them using our extensive school grounds which include a woodland classroom.
Children's personal, social and emotional education is equally important as their academic so manners and respect are encouraged and children are helped to recognise the needs of other people. During the last academic year Infant children were involved in a variety of fund raising events for charities, which included, Water Aid, NSPCC, Fair Trade and Bobath Cerebral Palsy Treatment Centre. During the 2009/2010 academic year our charity efforts will be focused on building a partnership with, and supporting, Parirewa Primary School in Zimbabwe.
From Reception to Year 2 the children are given enriching learning opportunities in small mixed ability classes of generally no more than 16 pupils. They are taught by specialist teachers in Music, and in Year 2, P.E. We aim to help children develop their own particular talents and abilities by providing a balance between academic, physical and creative activities. These activities stimulate and encourage our children to develop into happy, self confident and independent learners.
The Infants' School has its own purpose-built building that offers our younger pupils a tailor-made safe environment from which to begin their formal education. Constructed in 2004 it has its own facilities including a library, music room, ICT suite and a large acoustically designed hall.
Here we feel learning is fun and all effort is valued.
