House Basketball Competition.  The House Basketball Competition has taken place this week with competition between the teams being fierce. This was a popular event with many pupils turning out to support their House. The winners of the individual year groups were: Year 7 - Caradog Year 8 - Caradog Year 9 - Dyfrig Year 10 - Gwynog Year 11 - Gwynog Sixth form - Dyfrig The overall winner will be announced next week. Well done to all pupils involved.

Holocaust Memorial Day service. The Head Boy and Head Girl, together with their Deputies, represented Rougemont at the annual Holocaust Memorial Day service at St Gabriel's Church, Cwmbran. The purpose of the service was to remember the events of the Holocaust, to reflect upon its consequences and to help develop a spirit of understanding and tolerance. In school there was a whole school assembly led by Mr Jenkins where he focused on the importance of Holocaust Memorial Day.  

A Class Act. To supplement the Year 8 PSE programme Gwent Police visited this week to talk to the pupils about drugs awareness. They were shown different types of drugs, told about their effects and their consequences. The pupils found the visit to be very informative and helped to reinforce the work they have been doing in their lessons.

Golf Buggy arrives in the Physics Department! The Celtic Manor Resort has very kindly lent the Physics Department an electric golf buggy for the pupils to turn into a solar vehicle. The buggy arrived on Tuesday and will be worked on by a team of Year 12 Physics pupils who will gather a sub team of younger pupils to help in the task. We are also very happy to tell you that Tata Steel is donating a 65W solar panel to the project. The finished 'Solar Bug' will also be useful to test for a scaled down model of the Tata Steel Engineering Education Scheme in Wales task for this year too. Renewable energy is a big part of the Physics curriculum in GCSE Physics and so converting the buggy will be an invaluable learning aid for the pupils. There is one more hurdle to overcome before we can start the project - six very expensive gel batteries need to be replaced - Mr Whitney and his team are trying to re-charge them at the moment to try to save this expense. Once we have these batteries sorted out the project can really get going! We intend to keep a photo diary of the project which will be available in the Solar Bug for visitors to look through when they are being driven around the site on Open days and for other visits.
